Hey.

I notice some issues with the body:
Her right (our left) side is basically a straight line; that looks bad and is incorrect. While it's not terrible with the torso, when it reaches the hip it should pop out a little more. The leg on that same side is also thinner and the knee seems to be on the wrong side. The knee down on the opposite leg also appears to be anatomically flawed, though I have a hard time pinpointing exactly why. Her right hand needs some work. Her breasts and up are good, as are your proportions, for the most part. The face looks a little strange as it's not entirely on center and could be a lot more feminine looking. Her gun looks pretty good.
All of these things are things that can be improved upon through practice. It's not a bad piece, just a flawed one, and since it was made to test out a program, I suppose it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Wivernryder responds:

On the contrary, I should take everything you say seriously as a critique of this piece. Testing out a program is no excuse for not being able to spot flaws. Thanks for the info! I knew that her knees looked odd, especially her right (left view), but the shading was questionable on that one. The lineart is somewhat shoddy because I've never done lineart before. I'm working to improve this alot.
As to her face, I loathe doing faces... I'm really trying to get better at them but they're just so disagreeable.
And her left (right view) knee looks funny because the angle is wrong. It should be more centered on her leg rather than off to the side like it is now. The bend in her leg is also misplaced, it should be more smooth. Angle again.

I like it.

In all honesty, the design doesn't seem terribly "simple". Either way, your iteration looks better to me than his original character, and I like this piece.
Some little bad things: Her neck and head are both very long. Her eyebrows are too high, and her hairline is also a tad too high up. Her breasts look a little like they're being pressed into eachother near the top, which realistically wouldn't happen without some force pressing them to do that. Her belly area/ torso is a little too short; her hips are too high as a result of that.
Good things: I really love the coloring. The shading is a little too subtle, but it looks good. The character has good detail and personality, and besides the anatomy flaws I pointed out, the line art is good.
Overall, a good piece. For the most part, the flaws are from some small anatomy errors, but those can be avoided in the future.

iCleon responds:

I've been fucking around with anatomy for some time now. Your review gave me hope. Thank you.

Holy shit.

Your work is always amazing, and it's even better when you're doing my characters!
This is the second time you've done characters of mine, and yet again, I
absolutely love it. The shop looks great as well, only adding to a drawing that was already fantastic. It has awesome shading, great detail, and you made them your own without changing much about them.
I dig the aperture science patch, as well.
Yet again, amazing work from you.

Hoboweasel responds:

Thanks! Glad you like em :J
That hat was a really annoying though. Took me a while to realize I didn't even want to have her wearing it because I couldn't draw it the way I wanted to...

Amazing.

I love this! I especially love the young Link, Zelda, Shiek, Skullkid, and Shadow Link redesigns. Your attention to detail on each one is surprisingly good, and how much of your own style and personality is placed into the characters is awesome.
One complaint, though: Shiek masquerades as a man. The outfit you have her in now is too feminine and is a dead giveaway as to her true gender. I love the way it looks, and accuracy may not have been what you were aiming for, but it's just a little nitpick of mine.

Very good.

Well, lets look at it this way: You're sixteen. This looks better than a lot of the adult-made content on this site. This is proof that you could definitely go places in the future. I'm sixteen; you're obviously lightyears ahead of me. I have a lot of respect for that, to be honest.
Now, onto the piece itself. I've never been much a fan for gross art, but this does pull it off masterfully without coming across as overly disgusting and distasteful. There's lots of detail here in her wrinkles and folds. The color scheme works nicely and the subject really captures the viewer, for better or for worse. My only qualm with this piece, however, lies in the hair. Her hair is just a shape with some folds, and doesn't look like a part of her head, almost as if it's a turban. Hair is far more fluid and organic than that. This is especially true with her ponytail.
Overall, amazing work. You have massive amounts of potential.

Jaona responds:

Thanks for your kind comment :)
And yea, the thing one her head was meant to be a turban like cloth, but the spot behind her neck and back truly don't look really like cloth :p

Smeary

The paint job on this piece looks very messy. It's smeary-looking and it makes her look like she's melting. That's especially true on her right arm. The background feels lazy and doesn't match the painting. Her reflection in the background could really be done without. Samus also doesn't have green hair, last I checked.
All this said, it's not without merit. The shading and lighting are very well done and you got some of the textures down right.
If you clean up the painting here and give it a better background, this has a lot of potential.

unttin7 responds:

This was kinda of a bored attempt in class, there really wasn't to much work done to it and could still use some work i agree. However Old samus back in the original metroid games did have green hair when she wasn't wearing the suit, that is if you cheated and got the zero suit in the original metroid. I appreciate the input and i do plan to continue cleaning it up.

I found Waldo!

Technically amazing, this is not, but stylistically and aesthetically, this absolutely rocks. I like how, instead of using a plain background, you used a collage of patchmen. It makes it look more complete. My favorite ones are the ghost, the bearded one, and the broken heart one, as well as the little devil.
Some little things: The bottom has what looks like the cropped off top of the head of a very big patchman, and while that doesn't necessarily detract, I find it strange and unfitting. As well, you could have them a little more consistently placed, as the placement as is is kind of unbalanced. Loo at the lower right corner as opposed to the lower left, for instance.
Still, this is a really likable piece. Good work.

RiverJordan responds:

I get what you mean with the out of place big patchman, as for consistenly placed...not sure what to tell ya but i was just drawing patchmans. Not really going for any form of consistency. (Not that i'm telling you you're wrong, its was just how i was thinking :P)

thanks for the review <3

What the hell?

Why the hell is the score of this a 1.67?! Christ, the way people on this site rate things is insufferable.
It's not bad. I actually really liked it; the painting style strays from your norm, in that it doesn't use outlines, which creates a more natural feel, although it still has your aesthetic style in it. You did a good job of creating textures in the outfit, the design of which is actually really cool. I like the character and his expression a lot. A monster hunter waiting from the bus.
Some little things: The background (particularly the sky) looks unrefined, and how bulky his clothing is makes his head look too small.

Keep it up, try and do some more stuff with this style. I know I'm a little late in commenting on this and it's a little old, but still, I like your work and want to see more.

Dalenbourg responds:

Wow man, thanks for the response! It's always good to see you round the site!

Yes, this was the last thing i have digitally painted. since then ive been doing colour studies and actual learning, so when im able to get back into digipainting i'll be all down and contributing again.

Crop it.

By god, you absolutely HAVE to crop your work so that it looks good in the forum. It shows laziness if you don't and I've seen people get unscouted for not cropping work. We're here to look at the work, not the spirals or the white space around it.

I only docked 1 point for that, by the way. I'd normally give this 8/10. The woman looks good, especially her hair, but the snake looks sloppy. It's coloring especially, and it appears as though it lacks a head.
Crop it so that we're only looking at the drawing; otherwise, it's really a good piece.

Wabbla responds:

LOLWUT
if i wanted to crop it and clean it and stuff, i would've done it!
thats how i felt to do it, since its not pure digital werk.

glad u enjoyed even with spirals and empty space ;D

Good.

Damnit, Vero, why are you so good? Simple and pretty, it's got a lot of charm. Lots of style, and it's both a blend of how your work usually looks and something else entirely. I love the glowing eyes and the squiggles, although a more even distribution of the squiggles could have made it look even better.
Also, if you're trying to get the point across that it's a shadow monster, it would probably seemed more fitting with a different backdrop, like one of night or of just a more somber area. The sunset does look good, though.
Great work.

Juno was mad, he knew he'd been had, so he shot at the sun with a gun. He shot at the sun with a gun; he shot at his wily one, only friend.
